The Kennebec Sanitary Treatment District is a Grade V regional activated wastewater treatment facility with a capacity of 12.7 million gallons per day, is seeking a full-time Assistant Wastewater Operator to help protect the health of our communities and the Kennebec River.

What You’ll Do:
No two days are exactly alike. You’ll play a key role in:
- Operating and monitoring plant equipment to ensure smooth and efficient treatment
- Adjusting processes as needed to maintain strict permit compliance
- Recording equipment readings and maintaining detailed records
- Running the sludge dewatering process
- Overseeing safe delivery and handling of treatment chemicals
- Working with maintenance department and lending a hand wherever needed
What You’ll Bring:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret process data and make informed decisions
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a team
- Safety-minded with a willingness to learn
- Basic smartphone & computer skills (MS Office,
- Physical readiness for the job: lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and confined space entry
What We Provide:
We invest in our people. New to the field? We’ll get you licensed and trained:
- Grade 2 – Maine Wastewater Operator Certification – must be obtained within 6 months (we’ll help with that!)
- Competitive base hourly rate: $22.44–$27.35/hour, based on experience and qualifications. Additional hourly stipends for operator certification!
