City of Rockland Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/Mechanic

Are you reliable, trustworthy, and interested in supporting one of Rockland’s most critical public infrastructures? The Pollution Control Department for the City of Rockland is seeking an Operator/Mechanic – Grade III or above for the Rockland Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).  

As a WWTP Operator/Mechanic, you’ll support the operation of the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant and Pump Stations by: 

  • Assisting in the daily operation of the plant and machinery in a safe and efficient manner
  • Monitoring, cleaning, and maintaining plant equipment
  • Performing or assisting in various testing procedures
  • Maintaining the Treatment Plant’s physical plant and grounds

Successful applicants will have: 

  • Strong mechanical, mathematical, and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment
  • The ability to diagnose and correct routine equipment malfunction
  • Knowledge of basic machinery repair
  • The ability to operate a forklift
  • A results-driven approach
  • A commitment to fostering a positive, harmonious work environment

 Relevant experience and education/training:

  • Maine Wastewater Treatment Operator’s certification Grade III or equivalent (preferred)
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Experience in a water treatment plant, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform essential job functions  

Relevant licenses and certifications:

  • Valid State of Maine Class C Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain a Grade V Operator Certification within a reasonable time frame set by the WWTP Director
