The Lewiston-Auburn Clean Water Authority (LACWA) is seeking a motivated and trustworthy worker to serve as a clean water mechanic/truck driver.
Located on Lincoln Street in Lewiston, LACWA is one of the largest clean water plants in the state.
Our mission is to protect public health and the environment by treating the residential, commercial, and industrial wastewaters of our communities and returning clean water to the Androscoggin River. The LACWA team takes pride in this important work and look forward to welcoming a new member on board.
This position is hourly and provides pay starting at $26.43/hr. with a full benefit package including paid time off, health insurance, vision and dental insurance, retirement benefits, professional development, clothing and boot allowance, and more. Shifts are Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with eventual weekend and holiday overtime opportunities. This position performs truck driving as well as general maintenance of Authority wastewater treatment equipment. Will train and license (CDL B) the right candidate. $100 per month stipend given to all employees who participate in truck driving.
This position requires passing a pre-employment physical consisting of: General Laborer Physical, PFT (Pulmonary Function Test), OSHA Respirator Clearance, Respirator Physical, Baseline Audiogram, Vision Snell Chart, HPE (Human Performance Evaluation). No BAT (Breath Alcohol Test) or UDS (Urine Drug Screens) will be performed; however, all employees are subject to drug and alcohol testing if there is reasonable suspicion of use or being under the influence while at work. Employee optional vaccines: Hepatitis B Vaccine and titer, TDaP (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis).
As of January 2023, employers of CDL drivers are required to conduct background investigations before hiring a driver. This process includes determining if the driver has violated the drug and alcohol regulations of any Department of Transportation (DOT) mode within the past three years. A query is done prior to employment and annually thereafter. You will be asked to sign a waiver upon hire for an initial query as well as an annual query. LACWA is a drug and alcohol-free workplace. CDL-B drivers will be part of a random drug testing pool.

Job Description
· Performs truck driving (CDL B), currently to the town of Hartland and back. Will train the right candidate.
· Maintains, repairs and cleans facility equipment (e.g. machinery, tanks, vessels, valves, piping, pumps, blowers, drives, brakes, air compressors, presses).
· Operates hoists, backhoe/loader, tractor.
· Performs building and grounds maintenance including, but not limited to: general cleaning, landscaping, lawn mowing, snow/ice removal and salt/sanding, snow blowing/plowing, floor and walkway repair, door and window repair, painting, resurfacing or replacement of walls, floors, ceilings, etc.
· Safely uses regularly rated ladders, hoists, personnel retrieval equipment, air monitoring equipment and other equipment needed to provide safe access to work assignments.
· Loads, unloads, delivers, or picks up items using Authority vehicles.
· Full and accurately completes documentation (e.g. plant rounds, work orders, truck logs).
· Performs all other duties as required to safely carry out the mission of the Authority as directed by Authority management.
· Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or be able to demonstrate high school level reading and writing ability.
· Must maintain a valid commercial driver’s license and be readily insurable without additional endorsement or surcharge to the Authority.
· Must possess or obtain within twelve months of starting in the position, a valid Maine commercial driver’s license, class B or higher.
· Must be capable of using common hand tools safely and effectively to make basic repairs to simple mechanical equipment without supervision.
· Ability to perform manual labor including climbing regularly rated ladders, safe lifting of at least 50 pounds unassisted, use lawn mowers, snow blowers and other common equipment.
· Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions in English.
· Ability to work out of doors in Maine weather conditions regardless of season.
· Ability to use a respirator.
· Ability to pass random drug and alcohol tests.
· Must be a United States Citizen or permanent legal resident.
