The Maine Water Utilities Association (MWUA) is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Executive Director to lead our mission of advocating for safe, reliable drinking water through education, training, public outreach, and policy leadership.

About the Role:
As Executive Director, you’ll guide the strategic direction of MWUA and work closely with a committed Board of Directors, staff, committees, and statewide partners. You’ll manage operations, deliver impactful programs, and represent Maine’s water utilities on key legislative, regulatory, and industry issues.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead day-to-day operations and staff management.
- Develop and manage the annual budget and association finances.
- Represent the water utility profession in legislative and regulatory matters.
- Coordinate education, training, and professional development programming across the state.
- Build relationships with public agencies, other nonprofits, and stakeholders.
- Plan and manage annual conferences and events.
- Communicate regularly with MWUA members through newsletters, meetings, and media.
What We’re Looking For:
- A Bachelor’s degree in public water supply, engineering, life sciences, business, communications, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of proven leadership experience, ideally in a managerial or nonprofit setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with budgeting, advocacy, personnel management, and community partnerships.
- Familiarity with Maine’s legislative and regulatory environment is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Maine (occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight stays required).
