HELP WANTED –– Part-time Transfer Station Attendant –– Town of Hebron
Position Summary
The Transfer Station Attendant is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the transfer station. This position is part-time 15 hours weekly and involves customer service, equipment operation, site maintenance, waste handling, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Open, close, monitor, and operate the transfer station.
- Operate the compactor and other equipment as required.
- Empty municipal solid waste (MSW) dumpsters into the Town trash truck.
- Sort recyclable materials and promote best recycling practices.
- Maintain the transfer station grounds, including litter control and general site cleanliness.
- Monitor incoming waste and ensure that hazardous materials are not accepted or disposed of at the facility.
- Verify that all vehicles using the facility display a valid transfer station permit or sticker.
- Provide courteous assistance and information to residents and customers.
- Assist with seasonal duties, including snow removal, mowing, and other grounds maintenance activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to operate, or willingness to learn to operate, transfer station equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and customer service skills when interacting with the public and fellow employees.
- Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Commitment to following all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and Town policies.
