The Town of Freeport is seeking a full-time Environmental Services Coordinator to support municipal environmental compliance, stormwater management, and sustainability initiatives. This role involves both fieldwork and technical reporting, with an emphasis on collaboration, communication, and independent problem-solving.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct fieldwork, including water quality sampling, environmental monitoring, and stormwater inspections
  • Develop and implement environmental policies, education, and outreach initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • Use GIS tools for mapping, analysis, and reporting
  • Collaborate with departments and the public on sustainability and conservation projects
  • Prepare technical reports and regulatory documentation

Preferred Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Experience in environmental services, compliance, or related areas
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability practices, and management systems
  • Proficiency in water sampling, testing, and GIS mapping (ArcGIS or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with environmental policy development and public outreach
  • Understanding of aquatic habitats and current stormwater technologies
  • Valid Maine Class C driver’s license
  • Maine DEP Certified BMP and Post-Construction Stormwater Inspector certification (required within 12 months of hire)
  • Knowledge of field safety practices and ability to work in varying weather conditions
