Full-Time Water Operator - Belfast Water District

Belfast Water District has an opportunity for the right individual to join our team as a Water Operator.  This full-time position requires a neat, self-motivated person who enjoys communicating with and assisting customers.  The work can sometimes be physically demanding and may require long hours, especially in an emergency. 

Daily duties for this position include, but are not limited to, duties at our two well sites and booster stations, such as daily pumping records, treatment levels, and facility maintenance and cleaning.  Other daily responsibilities include customer service work orders, meter readings, meter changes, service activations, and deactivations. 

Fieldwork includes repair and replacements of water mains, water services, fire hydrants, gate valves, etc.  This position consists of the operation of vehicles and equipment such as pickups, dump truck, front-end loader, excavator, hydro-vacuum excavator, compressor, compactors, and pipe saw.  Familiarity with these materials and equipment is beneficial.

The successful candidate must have a clean driving record and at least a valid Class C driver's license.  A Class A or B license is preferred, or be able to obtain one within two years. 

Candidate must also have a valid Maine State Class II Water Distribution and Water Treatment license or the ability to obtain the required licenses within three years. 

After training, you will be part of a rotation schedule to do a call duty week, including Saturday and Sunday, plus after-hours emergencies.  The position requires that you carry a cell phone and be available to respond to Belfast within 20 miles.  The call duty schedule is set in advance and includes daily duties at the well sites.
